Create . Inspire . Live Well

Mind & Purpose

Our minds are constantly being shaped by what we consume, not only through our thoughts, but also through the choices we make each day. True wellness begins when we intentionally care for both the mind and the body, recognizing that the two were designed to work together.

This space is dedicated to thoughtful reflections that inspire intentional living, practical wisdom, and a deeper appreciation for God’s design. Here, you’ll discover insights that encourage you to live with purpose, nourish your body with understanding, and grow in the knowledge that every good gift points back to the Creator.

The Science of Color and Nutrition is an excerpt from my book, Eat the Rainbow, chapter 1. I hope it inspires you to see food not merely as fuel, but as one of the many ways God reveals His wisdom through creation.

The Science of Colour & Nutrition

God designed creation with intention, even in the colors of the foods we eat. Each color group carries unique vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and natural compounds that support specific systems of the body. At the same time, each color mirrors spiritual truths woven throughout scripture. Eating the rainbow is not just a pretty phrase. It is a biological principle. The colors in fruits, vegetables, herbs, and other plant foods often come from natural compounds called phytonutrients.

These are plant-based compounds that help protect the plant from stress, sunlight, disease, and environmental damage and when we eat them, they can support protection, repair, and balance in the human body.

Why Color Matters

Color is one of the ways God reveals function. A red tomato, a purple berry, a green leaf, or an orange carrot is not colored by accident. This is why eating a variety of colors helps the body receive a wider range of nutrients instead of depending on one type of food alone.

For example, deeply colored foods often contain higher concentrations of these compounds, which can contribute to heart health, immune function, brain support, and overall balance within the body.

No single food contains all the nutrients the body needs. Eating a variety of colors allows for a broader range of support. Each color group contributes something different, working together to nourish the body more completely.

This is why color matters not for appearance, but for function. It is one of the ways the body can be supported through diversity in nutrition.

Here is a breakdown of how each color group supports the body:
